I want to run down this path into the California green grass and oak trees. A friend and fellow Northern Californian asked me to paint this NorCal oak tree scene for her. Spring and Summer in this area are always so lush and green, bright green. Bright- bright- green. I miss it so much, especiallyContinue reading “California Oak Trees”

Time for a New Bouquet
These are the flowers I bought last week to use as a still life. It was a much fuller bouquet and one by one the flowers have been dying and I have been plucking them out. Now I’m down to just 3 ranunculus and the greenery. If I touch the ranunculus the petals fall off.Continue reading “Time for a New Bouquet”

Dress
This is one of the first paintings I did after my break from painting (because my kids were little and I couldn’t do everything). It’s still one of my favorites. It’s my daughters little white silk baptism dress. It’s clearly inspired by one of my favorite artists, Wayne Thibaud. I love the way Thibaud laysContinue reading “Dress”
Daily Painting
Here’s today’s flowers. I’m going to scrape the paint off and then bring it back again. I’ve noticed that with flowers the painting takes on a lighter quality when I scrape. Here goes… I’ll bring it back tomorrow.
Cabbage Roses
Such pretty flowers with such a strange name. 8X8″ oil on canvas. This is another study for a piece I’ve been asked to do. Today I used the colors I already had on my canvas from work I was doing on some figures. I only added some green. The family portrait with 7 figures thatContinue reading “Cabbage Roses”
Flowers
4X4″ oil on canvas I got a request/commission for a painting of a boquet of flowers. I painted a bouquet last year but that’s the only one I’ve ever done, so I thought I’d spend a little time working out flowers. I think it will be a fun challenge. I’ll go buy some flowers on MondayContinue reading “Flowers”
Green Apple Coming in for a Landing
This was my set up for tonights 4×4″ still life. You can really see in the photograph how the lights and darks are blasted out, too light and too dark. The actual Apple had a lot of color in it. My struggle was that I was painting in the dark and I couldn’t really tellContinue reading “Green Apple Coming in for a Landing”
Bald Eagle
My brother in law took a photo of a bald eagle and posted it on Facebook, I grabbed it and used it for today’s crittrscape. I believe the eagle is sitting on the edge of a rice field near Chico, California. 4×4 oil on canvas
