A fun and beautiful change of scenery!
MacKerricher State park is just north of Fort Bragg, California. About 100 north of San Francisco.
This year I joined the BOSCO Boise Artist Collective and will take part in their open studio event. They asked for a number of things for their website and marketing materials including an artist portrait and a studio shot. And some images of my work. I have a brilliant photographer neighbor who came over and took my picture and made me look much better than I really look. Here’s the portrait along with my studio space and the images I submitted for the website.
I worked out some final details on this big plein air piece. When I started it I wondered if the scale of the project was too ambitious, but I allowed it to develop over time and I didn’t feel a rush to complete the whole piece right away. I enjoyed the process of being outside and painting what I observed in nature. And it was fun to say hi to so many people passing by. My favorite was catching the shadows on the foothills before they slipped away with the movement of the sun.

This morning I went out and painted on location for about 3 hours with a friend. It was fun to have someone with me.
I still have a ways to go. I like this point in the progress of a painting. When I have all the element in and I start to work on developing individual parts.
