I love this picture of my son Sammy with Geoff Krueger (check out his website and find one of his galleries and go buy some his amazing artwork, you won’t regret it) in his studio. Sammy was taking a studio tour for an out of class art experience required for his art class. That painting in theContinue reading “Coolest people ever”

Clamming in Maine
I’m so excited to have the professionally scanned image to share with you on my blog. I wanted to wait until the painting was given as a gift before posting it so I wouldn’t somehow spoil the surprise through social media or whatnot. I got the report back today that it was very well receivedContinue reading “Clamming in Maine”
Runner progress
Here is where I’m at with this runner painting. It’s not done yet, you’ll see that the runners don’t have feet yet and only the gal in pink is mostly done. I worked on the background quite a bit yesterday. My issue with this one is that I’ve painted it before, and so it feelsContinue reading “Runner progress”
Josie
Hi! I’m in between paintings right now so I thought I’d post a portrait I did a while back that I don’t think I’ve shared. I can’t remember. I took a picture of my niece Josie last summer while she and my daughter were playing on the beach in the evening. The sun was castingContinue reading “Josie”
New painting started
I started this 18X24″ version of the running painting yesterday. I included just 3 figures and no dogs this time. I wanted to try painting a more tonal version of it. I’m taking a different approach and will just see where this one will go.
Finished and signed! Soon to be delivered.

I’m guessing she was in her 20’s and could have been a movie star. My friend Jessica looks just like her mother but with brown hair. Same dimples,Continue reading “Finished and signed! Soon to be delivered.”
portrait painting
I thought I’d share one of my portrait painting tricks with you all. I like getting to this stage in the portrait. Features are painted and fairly accurate. The first coat of paint is mostly dry. At this point one by one I refine each feature. I take a picture of the actual photo I’mContinue reading “portrait painting”
More Progress
Now she has hair and shoulders, there’s a little more to do on the hair. Next step is glazing when it dries.
Progress on my 60’s beauty
Started-wipe back
I started this new portrait yesterday. First I sketched in where all the features go then I did a wash with oil paint (I’ve done this technique without a sketch too). Then I wiped back the light areas using a paper towel and sometimes a little turpentine, and painted back in some of the darkContinue reading “Started-wipe back”
