Black Cliffs
16X20 oil on canvas I’m still at it with my plein air abstract landscapes. Today Inwent out and basically did an oil sketch and a start to this painting outside and then came in and finished from my memory of the place. I’m not sure it’s finished yet. And I’m hoping it doesn’t look likeContinue reading “Black Cliffs”
Oregon Coast
Last year I did a portrait of some kids playing at the coast in Oregon. After I finished t I started a smaller Oregon Coast painting with no kids and a different composition. Today I got it out and worked on it some more. I think there might be too much contrast between the wetContinue reading “Oregon Coast”
More progress, getting closer.
Castlerock from Morningside
14X18 oil on canvas Today I went out and did this plein air painting. I had to brave the wind and ended up painting right out of the back of the car with the canvas laying flat in the back. My canvas kept blowing away at first. Note to self- bring along the thing thatContinue reading “Castlerock from Morningside”
Homestead Trailhead
I kinda love this one, and you’re not going to hear me say that often. Today as I was organizing my studio I came across an 11×14″ plein air painting I did last fall. The painting never really worked and in general fell flat. So I picked it up and worked on it again today.Continue reading “Homestead Trailhead”

I tried to be loose and to use a lot of paint and vary the direction of brush strokes. It was a fun exercise to try toContinue reading “Color/landscape/abstract”
Portrait
I started this mother/daughter portrait last week and look forward to working on it more when it dries. I’ll add to their features and I will use glazes to bring up the chroma and hopefully bring them to life. I also look forward to playing around with those people and dog playing in theContinue reading “Portrait”
Huntington Beach
During our Southern California trip we made our way to Huntington Beach on a perfect 75 degree spring day, with about 10,000 other people. It was warm, blue skies, and lots of people to watch. My kids loved playing in the water even though the lifeguards worked hard to scare all the swimmers out ofContinue reading “Huntington Beach”
Cousin Portrait
18X24″ oil on canvas This family portrait is all done, photographed, and shipped off to the grandparents. They love it. This was a gift from my friend to her patents for their 50th wedding anniversary. I worked from 2 different photographs to put it together. One of the kids all together and one of theContinue reading “Cousin Portrait”
