Sunset Over Harris Ranch

8×10″ oil on canvas

I’m determined to figure out plein air painting.  I’ve found a spot not to far away where I can go to paint the sunset, so I’m going to do a series of paintings from this location until I figure out the process better.

I painted this one last night.  I liked painting the sunset because I had to move really fast.  I liked the limited window of light.

I’m not in love with my paintings right now, I feel like I am in a transition trying to figure out what I want to paint and how I want to paint it.  I also want to understand color better.

Plein Air Box

I’m working on figuring out both this little 5X7″ painting box and plein air painting.  I went out this morning to try to catch the sunrise and it was just foggy.  It looked like it would just be a little cloudy which would have been great, but then the fog rolled in.  There are actually mountains behind those trees.

Skyscape

IMG_1110.JPGYou can expect so see a bunch of skyscapes in the near future.  I’m in love with all the shapes and colors created in the clouds and sky.

Yesterday as I sat in the parking lot waiting during my daughters dance rehearsal I decided to pull out my paints and paint the cloudy Boise sky.  I don’t normally have my paints in the car with me, but yesterday I did.  It was great because I didn’t have to drive anywhere to find the sky.
