Flooded

The Boise River is so high right now that it has flooded parts of the greenbelt and some areas downriver from where I live.  I stood on a bridge to paint this one.  I got a bunch of funny comments.  Paintings don’t look like much in the beginning stages, at least mine don’t, so I prefer to keep them to myself until they look half decent.

Today my daughter went to school all day so I was able to go out and paint in the morning (we homeschool half time).  I went out to the farmland that is at the base of the foothills on the other side of Boise from where I live.  I sat in the back of my car with the back up.  I can hide a little that way.  Beautiful morning.

I found this lovely big tree in the middle of a hay or alfalfa field.  I’ve found that I do best when I find a big tree to make my focus, I pretend it’s a figure.

Harris Ranch Big Tree

I painted this plein air today.  I feel like I’m starting to get a feel for plein air painting.  I’m happy with how this little painting turned out.

I keep painting Harris Ranch because it’s just about the only flat open space near my house.  There are a few cows left on the ranch I’d like to paint.  This open space is quickly disappearing with houses being built on it all the time.
