More light through the wave and on the girls. Still a little more to do.
WIP Kids on the Beach
Now to turn the lights on. It’s getting there. Next I’ll go in and work on their skin tones and bring up the values.
Progress on the wave

Here’s where I’m at today. I blocked in basic skin tones with mainly 2 values of light and dark. I also worked some on the foamy water that the girls are standing in. When I paint in their swimsuits and the little hand trowel in the little ones hand I will have paint all over the whole thing. Then I can fine tune all of it. I like the way the wave looks.
Wave

I started the wave in my Kids on the Beach painting today. I have the basic colors and shapes blocked in. I’m excited to see it coming together!
Playing on the Beach
Here is the start of my new painting, I have finally drawn it in. It’s of two little girls playing on the beach in Santa Cruz in front of a beautiful wave. I’m looking forward to painting it. The colors of the wave are out of this world, hopefully I’ll be able to bring it all to life. Here’s to hoping and trying!
Monterey Cypress

oil on canvas 36X48
I think my Monterey Cypress painting is done for now, I’ll probably come back to it at some point. But it was time to move onto something new.
Cypress Tree

Still workinng away on this one. I am working on putting in some atmospheric perspective. Pushing back parts of the tree and branches. I also changed the landscape some more. I didn’t like my rocks so I painted them out. I will add something else in eventually, like some bushes. My next step will be to bring back parts of the tree.
I hope your paintings are going well!
Progress!

Started something new!
Finally I have something started! It’s been busy here since the arrival of Mr. Puppy. He is a great, smart, lovable dog, but my word I AM TIRED!
Here we have a Monterey Cypress tree in beautiful, amazing, breathtaking Monterey California. I started it recently and have a lot to do on it still. 36X48″ it’s a big one.
I took lots of photos in CA and look forward to painting all of them.
Hope summer is rolling along warm and well for you! But my friends in Australia, it’s winter, right??
It’s HOT in Idaho. I eat a lot of Popsicles.
Bandit

I’ve been so busy with this guy that I haven’t painted for a bit. Plus we just got back from a loooooooong vacation to CA visiting family. We had a great time in my hometown and did all the usual things we do every summer: the beach in Medocino, Yokayo Pool, lots of pizza and movies, running with my sister, lots of ice cream, trip to SanFrancisco, etc. This year for the first time we went down to Santa Cruz and stayed with my cousins. I have 2 that live there that are so cool and fun to hang out with. Next year I think I’ll organize a painting retreat with them… I’ll have to figure that out.
We got back from it all and picked up our new puppy, he is ridiculously cute and smart and lively. He’s an 8 week blue merle Australian Shepherd. Maybe part panda bear.
I have some really great photos from Santa Cruz and Monterey that I am looking forward to painting. Most incredible places I’ve ever been.
I’ll tell you about my cousins fun shop tomorrow, she is a fashion designer.
It’s good to be back!!!
