Nov 12th trees: Downtown Boise
Today when I was out painting it was cloudy and grey. My painting reflects it. This is the river in downtown Boise. I left out the building behind the trees. I was right across from the Morrison Center which is on campus at Boise State University.

Nov 10th Trees
The fall colors in Boise are still hanging on so I went down and sat on the rocks and wet leaves by the river and painted. I like this one. And I like my tree a day challenge because I can already see evolution in my work. One idea always rolls into the next. There were 25 fishermen standing in the water. I left them all out because this painting is just 6×6.” Maybe next time I will add a few.

Red Cardinal
I just finished this little cardinal. I’m happy with the branch more than anything. The bird got a little fussy and I’ll look at it again when it’s dry and maybe simplify. Or maybe just let it be.

Plein Air
Tonight I took my painting into my Tuesday night painting class to get some feedback. When I was painting outside all the colors looked brighter and darker and different because sunlight reacts with the paint different than indoor light. When I looked at the painting indoors it looked alittle flat and dull. So I brought up the color and value. Here is is again reworked.
Nov 8th trees
I am happy with today’s trees. I went and sat by the river and painted Plein air. I love all the color I can see when I am outside and working from life. There are a few little things to touch up but is mostly there.
Nov 7 trees (sage)
This painting is just about as Idaho as it gets. I went out into the foothills today and chose this sage bush as my subject. This sage narrowly escaped the fire. As did my friends house!
Nov 5th trees
Today was busy with a lot of different things. Ballet Idaho is in full swing with Nutcracker practice so my daughter had 2 practices today, she has 2 parts. During one of her rehearsals I went over to a nearby park and did a very fast Plein air painting. I’m not sure what I think of the painting but I do like that I found a sliver of time to do a painting. And I like that bush in for foreground.
