This is sort of my view from my kitchen window. I say sort of because I do see Castlerock and Tablerock from my house, but from a different angle. I went out and painted the early morning shadows on the hills. If it’s sunny, I’ll give it another try in the morning. The skyContinue reading “Castlerock and Tablerock”

Ponderosa Pines
I’ve been working on this pine tree painting. Up above the foothills in Boise there are beautiful Ponderosa Pine forests that remind me of the Redwood forests in Northern California near where I am from. The trees just aren’t as big and tall.
Nov 10th Trees
The fall colors in Boise are still hanging on so I went down and sat on the rocks and wet leaves by the river and painted. I like this one. And I like my tree a day challenge because I can already see evolution in my work. One idea always rolls into the next. ThereContinue reading “Nov 10th Trees”
Red Cardinal
I just finished this little cardinal. I’m happy with the branch more than anything. The bird got a little fussy and I’ll look at it again when it’s dry and maybe simplify. Or maybe just let it be. 5×5″ oil on canvas
Nov 8th trees
I am happy with today’s trees. I went and sat by the river and painted Plein air. I love all the color I can see when I am outside and working from life. There are a few little things to touch up but is mostly there.
2 Cardinals
Here are my cardinals. Female and male.

Tablerock Plein Air
Today I drove up the hill to my friends house to paint Tablerock which was burned in a huge fire just before the 4th of July. An illegal firework started it. For a long time the hill was completely black. Yesterday I went running up there and noticed how much grass is growing back.Continue reading “Tablerock Plein Air”
Oct 31st Catalpa and Maple
Here’s another painting of trees at Manitau (dog) park. 5×7 oil on canvas. I wanted to paint this because I like the bright colors of the changing fall leaves contrasted with the dark tangle of trees and bushes behind them.
Oct 28th Trees
Today’s trees. And a bird. My friend asked me to paint a birdhouse to be auctioned off at a charity event in December. So today I practiced painting a little bird. It turned out very plump. The trees are in Camelsback park in Boise Idaho.
