6X6″ oil on canvas
Alla prima seems like such a fancy term to go along with a roll of toilet paper. But that’s what we have here. Alla prima is a painting technique used by artists since the beginning of time. It means wet on wet painting or “first attempt.” Usually this type of painting has a loose and fast looking style.
I’ve been wanting to paint still life’s for a while but my most excellent teacher/mentor/friend Geoff Krueger has encouraged me to zero in on my portraits for a while. Yesterday I rebelled just a little and painted this roll of toilet paper. It’s not a purple onion or a lemon or lime so I felt like it narrowly skirted the category of still life.
