Sunday Afternoon Fun

The Art Factory is in full swing.  I think my kids produce as much stuff as I do and soon we will be pushed out of our house by everyone’s masterpieces.  I bought this gal a little watercolor travel set for her birthday.  Normally she paints with acrylics along with her brothers but I thought she’d like to try a new medium.  She painted some cupcakes along with me yesterday as we both experimented with colors and how watercolors go down on paper.  She was happy with her cupcake painting.

I’m gearing up to try a landscape sketch in watercolors.

My oldest son set up a still life of his elephant and painted it.  You can see it on the table back there.  That kid can draw with pencil like nobody’s business.  My other son was working on a monopoly board which was a school project.

  1. I absolutely love that you make arts and crafts a family affair! I really hope to one day do the same. Sometimes I think mums are too afraid to let their kids have this kind of fun for fear of having to clean up a mess….to that I say they are missing out on some wonderful memories and fun with their kids!

    1. I have taken many mommy and me art classes and love them a lot. My kids used to write and illustrate books. A lot. It started because they had bad penmanship and I was trying to help them. Then it exploded into book after book. They still have sloppy handwriting but can draw like crazy.

  8. This is so very wonderful. I love that everyone has a unique project they are working on, and they all come to the table to work on it in one creative space. Sweet souls creating magic.

    1. That’s such a nice comment! We all love art more than just about anything else, so it’s fun for us to do it together. When I was a 3rd grade teacher we did art all day, everything was an art project because I didn’t know what else to do, and the kids responded to my love of art. With my own kids it has been basically the same scenario. We have always done art together because I simply don’t know what else to do. We are all happiest making things, probably because MOM’s happy doing it.

  9. I love that your kids do this with you! Mine are too old now (19 and 11) that they don’t want to (sniff!), and the 11 year especially gets very frustrated if he can’t achieve exactly what he wants. When they’re little they just enjoy it so much more – cherish these days!

  11. Art has always been a big part of my children’s life. I live in the UK and very little art is taught in school now. I was a teacher for 21 years and made art a priority. We have a small travel watercolour palette with the tiny brush that goes with it, large tube acrylics, chalks … As many mediums as possible. Tombows are a latest purchase posh felt tips that act like brushes amazing. My brother won The Turner Prize in 2002 so my children, like yours see being an artist as a proper job! I love this post making art important. X
